My Daily Makeup Look Tutorial

by - March 20, 2016

Because a lot of you seemed to enjoy the products I mentioned in my Everyday Makeup Favourites post, I thought it would be nice to make a sort of tutorial of my everyday makeup look, showing you how I use all of these products (and more). It's more practical to see what makeup products actually look like on someone's face rather than just swatches, so here we go. I hope you enjoy!
This is a look I quite enjoy doing on a day-to-day basis at the moment. Quick and easy, but it still feels somehow put together, especially with the eye look. Let's get on to my step-by-step routine:

THE FACE

I tend to keep a minimal face routine, in three big steps: foundation, concealer and powder. I'm lucky enough not to have any acne or anything, the worst thing for me to cover up are my dark circles. The Make Up Forever Full Cover Concealer makes a great job at hiding those. I'm using the Everlasting Foundation by Clarins, in shade 112 Amber. It has a beautiful finish, semi-matte I'd say - it is not shiny or glowy at all, but it catches the light beautifully. Then I use the Rimmel Stay Matte powder, because when you have oily skin this is a step you can't miss! This powder is great, I've been using it for years now and I'm completely satisfied with it.
This is all I do when it comes to face makeup - no contouring for me or anything of that type, I hate contouring actually haha. As you'll see in the photos, I'll add the blusher later on!

THE EYES

Most days I have to wake up early to go to university, and when you do your makeup at 6am you don't necessarily want to spend ages creating the best smokey eye effect! This why I'm so glad I got the By Terry Ombre Blackstar Eyeshadow Stick in Misty Rock - as you can see here, it is a gorgeous taupy, beigy shade (depending on the light) that is so sparkly and perfect. It blends out like a dream, with the tip of the finger, for a fuss-free but beautiful result. You don't need an eyeshadow primer with it because once it sets, it stays on so well throughout the day. As for the mascara, which was also featured in my last post, it is the Too Faced Better than Sex Mascara. It makes the lashes super black and full, although it is not the best mascara for length. Some might find that it looks too dramatic, but I love my lashes looking that way!

LIPS & CHEEKS

Because we're getting into spring (I'm sooo excited about that by the way, you'll be hearing about spring a lot on my blog in the next few weeks you can be sure of that!), I've been wearing more nude tones and pink blusher. Here I'm using my old and trusted H&M Blusher in the shade Sweet Rose. I've had it for four years now (how time flies!) and I love it because it has a slight shimmer, but it doesn't shine too much. On my lips, I've got my MAC lipstick in Fast Play - which so many of you seem to have fallen in love with in my last post and in the beauty haul where I first mentioned it! It has an amplified finish, my favourite finish from MAC, and it is a gorgeous, dusty pink nude colour. I've been using it a lot recently, it's become part of my routine and I love it! It is not a famous colour, people tend to go for Mehr or Velvet Teddy, but this one is worth checking out too!

That's pretty much it! As you can see, not much going on in terms of technique but just enough to call it a makeup look. In the morning it's better (and healthier) to spend time having breakfast than putting on makeup! ;)
I hope you're able to see better how the products look once they're out of their packaging! I'd recommend all of them that I've used for this tutorial, they're honestly great and you'd get so much use out of them if you like doing your makeup every day with staple products!

How do you do your makeup on a daily basis? Do you have products you can't live without at the moment?

Lots of love,
Julia x

  1. I loooove this look. And I had been looking forward to this post since I saw the products. I am especially in love with the eyeshadow and the lipstick. Very much the lipstick. I think I will have to pick it up. How does it feel - is it creamy or more drying? I feel like mac lipsticks can vary so much.
Also I just want to say you're gorgeous with and without makeup. You're such a natural beauty.

    Much love,

    1. Thank you Mona for this sweet comment, it means a lot to me! :) The lipstick is quite creamy, although throughout the day it gets a bit drier - with time it dries a bit on your lips and you can feel it a little, but the colour stays the same, you'd probably need to reapply it once after lunch for example but then it stays put all day! I hope this helps, tell me if you decide to get the lipstick - or even just go and swatch it if you have a MAC store near you! xx

  7. Eyeshadow sticks come handy in early mornings, I really can't be bothered to put on makeup at 6 am in the morning (that's when I hate to wakeup for going to work). Such a pretty makeup, something similar to my everyday makeup :) x

    1. Definitely, and it's probably even better not to wear too much makeup so early in the morning - being half asleep while applying eyeliner wouldn't probably give the best result :P xx
