Christmas 2015: Easy Christmas Cards DIY
This
Christmas, I wanted to do something a little special for
my family and friends. I don't usually give cards for Christmas, but
this year, I thought it was about time I shared the love a little! I
don't know about you, but I always get so much art supplies and
stationery stuff (and my mom does too so together we have a huge box
of supplies) but I never use them - lack of time, of motivation, of
skills (let's be honest here!). I've gathered all of my Christmas
craft supplies to create my own DIY cards. I'm sharing with you what
I ended up creating, hopefully this will give you some ideas if you
want to make Christmas cards as well!
The Structure of the Cards
I
used simple cardboard papers to make the 'bases' of my cards, and I
covered them with plain white paper (as shown in the first photo). I
decided to go for a very simple
design,
with white,
red, blue and green colours
- and some gold
highlights,
as you'll see as we go on. For each of the three cards, I glued a
Christmas paper design in the centre, while leaving some white space
all around it. I can't remember where I got the Christmas supplies
from, but I'm sure you can find similar ones in lots of arts and
crafts shops! For example, for the card shown above I used a pretty
paper, I love the cute 'North Pole' sign and the scalloped edges. I
added a little 3D Santa, to fill the space a bit more.
I
did the same with the envelopes, in which I glued some pretty
'frames' to put the names in. As you can see this is all very simple,
but the designs are so cute that they don't need much more! Now let's
see the details I added to the cards to make them look a little more
festive.
Decorating the Cards
The
first thing I did was to write
a little message on
my cards, using a gold felt tip (again, you can find these in many
stores). I kept it short and sweet, because I want to write personal
messages at the back of the cards, for each person I'm giving them
to. Gold always works great for Christmas cards - or anything related
to Christmas really! This is why I've added some gold
tinsel of
the cards, it immediately looks a lot more festive! I used superglue
because tinsel can be quite hard to work with.
This
is pretty much everything I've done! As you can see I have three
cards with the same type of design, for three of my closest friends.
Now I need to make more, for other friends and for family. I'll try
to do something a little different this time, although I really love
these cards - maybe something a little more colourful!
I
won't be showing a photo of the final result right now, because it
would give away the whole thing - I don't think my friends will read
this, but just in case I want to keep it secret until I give the
cards to them. I'll be adding a final photo when I've given each
their card haha.
Do you like giving cards to people for Christmas? Do you buy them or actually make them yourselves?
Lots of love,

It's nice to make cards yourself, they're instantly more personal and I guess people who receive them are happy to be given this token of love! :D xx
